To conceive, design and fabricate a piece of auxiliary equipment for video and audio equipment that:
• Captures content in a way you otherwise couldnʼt.
• Provides audio / video content for data analysis.
what is unseen means to me?
inside the rubbish bin.
corner of the building
other parts of the city
if i wanted to show other people how i would show my idea to some one.
Atlantis (in Greek, Ἀτλαντὶς νῆσος, "island of Atlas") is a legendary island first mentioned in Plato's dialogues Timaeus and Critias, written about 360 BC.
In Plato's account, Atlantis was a naval power lying "in front of the Pillars of Hercules" that conquered many parts of Western Europe and Africa 9,000 years before the time of Solon, or approximately 9600 BC. After a failed attempt to invade Athens, Atlantis sank into the ocean "in a single day and night of misfortune".
i know the city i live in it, but i don't know in detail. bit like lost city.
what do i notice about the city and what don't notice and why.
when we did situation shuffle we were following direction and we found out more about the city.
ideas
putting camera in the water container and walk around the city.
camera in different height to show different aspect (child and adult )
Taking with group
sams idea, having camera in the backpack and seeing the sight you never get to see.
cory's idea, he loves the weather and make touch pad to show weather.
we love cory's idea.
what we can show.
leaves falling from the tree - showing change of the weather.
rain- cory loves the rain
wind - how weather move
research
i like this idea maybe we can do put analogue sound making unit to amplify the weather tell story to other
touch pad idea
cory did make touch pad it was so cool!!! i guess we just need to test it
audio loop no.6 (Schland) from c scholz on Vimeo.
cory did mad touch pad but it wasn't sensitive enough to make it in to a instrument.
we taked as a group and we are going to try make weather instrument with water.
me and sam
what do we need to make to hold water
James : it will be hard to construct something is water proof
kim: interesting idea make something goes with cityscape
sam and me, let explore the city
sam really like idea of rubbish bin.
i like idea of weather station in Albert part.
construct something in the middle.
we have explore the shape of flower vas, speaker, bins.
kim: since we are making thing amplifies the weather, think about shape of speaker and it can be lie down and instrument can make analog sound.
research for weather instrument

David Roy has made a breakthrough with his new, innovative and absolutely stunning creation. Dubbed the ‘Summer Rain’, the extraordinary sculpture brings together motion, sound and a new type of drive mechanism. It includes three overlapping wheels made of nested circle forms creating a pattern that portrays ripples in a pond. Adding a little more spice to the motion is the very soft, melodic tinkling sound of small wood levers striking different lengths of thin brass rods. This unique combination of motion and sound is a reminder of a gentle summer rain.
Consisting of 21 x/y tilting devices, the installation is connected to dried plant stalks, which are placed inside the gallery. An identical dried plant stalk connected to an accelerometer is installed outdoors. An accelerometer measures the wind force on the stalk outside and transmits the data to the stalks inside in real time. Responding to the gathered data, the indoor device starts to tilt in accord with the one outside.
Have you ever seen an art installation that flashes lights to expose climatic vacillations? Weather Beacon, created by artist Erik Guzman, is one such kinetic sculpture that reveals the ins and outs of weather conditions and turns them into art through all four seasons. While, sometimes, you could see winter winds blowing, spring breezes greet you some other time. It’s all based on weather data, collected through radio waves, and the translated visual representations.
Cory: exploring the programs
talk think
talk think think think
talk more and think more
we need to make container is water tight to hold computer inside, water and camera.
it needs to move with wind.
unit need to let enough light inside the container for light sensor.
parts of the unit have to be metal
blend in to surrounding
and may be if we have enough time we can modify to make it in to an analogue music instrument it self.
idea with cylinder and dome,
michelle: Drawing CAD
James: it will hard to make dome or it is going to cos lots.
Me and Sam - change our idea
take dome from the structure, it will be easer to draw and make.
fabricate
welding was fun!!!!!
we all have same idea bout making music, but we all have different idea about how we want to represent and what we want people to feel and what we wan to say.
choose different location and conceptual idea to deliver each idea.
location! location! location!
telling story from each location and showing each ideas
Conceptual statement
In this project we have explored the city in a new way. Living in the city, I tend to forget the simplest things in life. Spending most of our time in buildings and driving from place to place, we tend to forget about, and lose our appreciation of weather. When walking down the Queen Street , most of the places are covered and people run between crossings. If people experienced the weather in a different way would they also act in a different way? I love walking down the Symonds Street Overbridge . You get to feel the strong wind as there are no buildings sheltering you from the wind. On a clam day the wind comes and gently touches my face. On a rainy day I can feel every drop of rain on my body. Through this project I wanted to amplify the experience of weather using sound and incorporate new elements so people can explore and experience new feelings. The way people feel towards anything is related to their previous experience. If I could make people see the city and weather with a new experience, they would be able to develop a new appreciation and way of experiencing weather.
Reflective stament
i learn lots from this assignment, looking back at what we did and how we can apply and reinforce thing to achieve what we want to do. i am not very happy with how are weather instrument looks but it works well, it keeps expansive laptop dry, water tight and holds water. if i had more time i would have made unit to make music it self. with Cory learning new program and new OS we were concentrating on unit work with light sensor which was most important part of our project we have forgot about the analogue music instrument it self.
also making of the actual unit was challenging we only had limited funds and material and use of the metal. it is always challenging working with new material you never work with before.
working as a group was fun and also challenging, we all knew we wanted to use sensor and weather but how we wanted to represent the idea and tell story was so different from each others, we had to spend lots of time discussing idea and try to understand each other. 4 ideas with one weather instrument and we had to think about how we can represent all our idea at the exhibition. no ones idea was better than other it's all interesting so it is important to show our individual thoughts.
